Barges
Since 1960, Glosten has designed over 120 barges for a wide range of service conditions including general purpose deck cargo barges; container barges; ro-ro barges for trailers, autos, and rail cars; submersible barges for dry-tows of large floating cargoes; and liquid bulk and dry bulk barges. Our designs include both inland and ocean service vessels.
We have designed a series of excavator type dipper dredges in support of marine construction and dredging companies. We also design split hull hopper barges where machinery control and hull opening and closing are by remote radio-link.
Glosten pioneered submersible float on/float off technologies in the 1970s and provide operations planning and engineering to specialized marine logistics projects. Services include ballasting plans, deck strength and global strength studies, vessel motions and sea fastening designs. We use advanced tools for the analysis of ship and barge collisions. These tools are used for design and risk assessment of vessel structure, cargo and civil structures.
