Engineer - Ocean Engineering and Analysis Group

The Glosten Associates is seeking an engineer to join our growing ocean engineering and analysis group. 
Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Ocean Engineering and/or Naval Architecture (required)
  • Master’s degree or higher in Ocean Engineering or Naval Architecture (preferred)
  • Engineer-in-Training certification is a plus.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong academic background in naval architecture, marine structures, hydrodynamics, numerical methods, and statistical analysis
  • Demonstrated interest in the marine industry
  • Excellent communication skills

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Finite element modeling and structural analysis
  • Seakeeping analysis
  • Resistance and propulsion calculations

Project Engineer - Marine Engineer

The Glosten Associates is seeking a Project Engineer to join our marine engineering group.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in marine, electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Engineer-in-training certification.

Required Technical Skills and Experience

' Minimum of 4 years of experience.

Demonstrated abilities and specific technical knowledge (including underlying theory) of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, power train principles and general shipboard mechanical systems.

General technical knowledge of shipboard electrical power and control systems.

Familiarity and general knowledge of regulatory issues and submittal processes, shipboard systems requirements, field work (shipchecking and shipboard systems performance surveys), shipyard practices, specifications, computational methods and design optimization.

Effective technical communication skills in verbal, written and graphic formats.
Ability to understand and contribute to resolution of a wide range of technical issues outside traditional marine engineering disciplines, including naval architecture (marine structures and stability issues) and design/drafting.

Familiarity with computer operations and general knowledge of commercial engineering and office (word processing and spreadsheet) software packages.

Responsibility for Direction of Others

Coordinate the technical work of other professionals on specific projects.  May assist with project management, scheduling and budgeting on smaller projects.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to work in the field at client offices, shipyards, and on board vessels of all types.  Engineers must be able to climb ladders and navigate walkways and gangwyas, and to easily transfer onto and off of a ship.  Work in confined spaces such as engine rooms and tanks may be required.

Other Requirments

Travel is required.  Some project assignments may require extended deployments away from the office.  A valid driver’s license, current passport and TWIC card are required.

Marine Consultant

The Glosten Associates is seeking a marine industry professional with both practical experience and formal academic training to complement our engineering consultancy.  Your expertise in marine transportation, vessel operations, navigation and ship handling, logistics and planning, and economic modeling will be put to use on a wide range of interdisciplinary projects.

Education and Licensing

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a marine-related discipline
  • USCG Master’s license

Required Skills and Experience

  • Onboard experience with harbor assist work and long-distance towing
  • Experience with vessel operations, voyage planning and logistics, cargo load planning, and basic naval architecture concepts
  • Knowledgeable about environmental issues relevant to the marine industry
  • Demonstrated ability to research complex problems, develop and analyze potential solutions, and present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Excellent communication skills in verbal, written, and graphic formats.

Receptionist/Accounting Clerk

The Glosten Associates is currently seeking a full-time receptionist / accounting clerk to join our front office team.  The position requires someone who is punctual, organized, attentive to detail, and has the ability to prioritize. The successful candidate must be flexible, self-sufficient, willing to pitch in wherever needed, and able to work cheerfully with constant interruption.

Responsibility

(80%)  General reception duties include:

  • Answer multi-line telephone system 
  • Meet and greet visitors
  • Support conference room scheduling
  • Coordinate mail, courier, and package service
  • Coordinate office calendars
  • Coordinate travel arrangements
  • Phone and web conference assistance
  • Manage subscriptions, memberships, and license renewals
  • Manage commuter benefits
  • Process requests for insurance certificates
  • Manage office and kitchen supply orders
  • General clerical duties
  • Kitchen and conference room clean-up
  • Close up office

(20%)  General accounting clerk duties include:

  • A/P data entry (including new vendor setup, W-9s, etc.)
  • File paid invoices and make copies for clients
  • Mail payments
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Familiarity with Deltek Vision Software a plus
  • Some accounting/bookkeeping experience preferred but not required
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience

Education

High school diploma or higher required.

Hours

 8:30 – 5:30 with 1 hour lunch break
