Oil & LNG Shipping
Glosten serves the oil and LNG shipping industries with design and analysis services.
Glosten has organized, instrumented and managed full scale tanker-tug trials and has provided instrumentation and engineering services for post-modification trials. Extensive reports have been prepared for the clients documenting the results. The results of this work include:
- Puget Sound Tanker Escort Plans and Tug Selection
- Operations Assessment in Prince William Sound
- San Francisco Bay Tanker Escort Regulations
- Los Angeles / Long Beach Tanker Escort Regulations
- Tanker Operations at SPMs and FSOs
The majority of the US flag TAPS trade tanker fleet carries Glosten produced maneuvering posters. These 18″x24″laminated posters are mounted in the wheelhouse and provide masters and pilots immediately accessible information on the maneuvering behavior of the ship.
To both oil and gas shipping clients Glosten has provided hull design, model testing support, structural design, mechanical and systems design. Glosten has done the engineering for both modifications and repairs on the US tanker fleet. Many of the firms engineers have seagoing and shipyard experience, enhancing our ability to provide practical and cost effective design solutions. We are experts in the use of applied hydrodynamics and offer state-of-the-art CFD hull form optimization capabilities.
Glosten has supported the recent surge in interest in gas shipping by providing tug design and analysis for handling LNG carriers at offshore fixed and floating terminals. Significant projects include the Northern Adriatic LNG gravity based terminal near Venice, Italy; and proposals for terminals for the US Gulf and East Coast, in Mexico, British Columbia, Canada and China.
