Vessel Design & Acquisition
Our approach to vessel design is client driven. We work closely with the owner and operator(s) to define the vessel’s mission requirements (geometry, speed, endurance, passenger and vehicle capacities), vessel types, propulsion and preliminary arrangements. Critical design issues include:
- Classification and certification
- Hull configuration
- Shoreside facility interface
- Cost estimates (capital, operating and life cycle costs)
- Operation, security, and maintenance
- Accessibility requirements
- Weight, stability, seakeeping, and maneuverability
- Procurement strategies
We also provide vessel acquisition services. We support clients in RFP development, shipyard evaluation and selection, and contract development and negotiations. Glosten assisted the Alaska Marine Highway System in their last two major procurements: the mainline vessel Kennicott and the fast vehicle ferries Fairweather and Chenega.
